The second edition of the Berkshire Encyclopedia of China is in development, with print and digital publication scheduled for 2021 (a century, incidentally, since the founding of the Chinese Communist Party). The project is led by Professor Kerry Brown, director of the Lau China Institute, King’s College, London.

Professor Brown is a well-known author of many books about Chinese politics. He was an associate
editor and contributed several major articles to the first edition of the Encyclopedia of China, and then
became editor in chief of the Berkshire Dictionary of Chinese Biography.

The new edition will be eight volumes in print, and is being developed for multi-platform digital access
to teaching materials, Chinese-language learning syllabi, and video and audio supplements.
The first edition received wide-spread critical acclaim and was selected for Library Journal’s Best
Reference and Booklist Editor’s Choice.
