Last week’s podcast of This American Life was devoted to stories of Americans in China. The stories they tell will most likely resonate with many foreigners, American or not, and perhaps even with people who have lived in other countries as “the other.” There are funny stories about the “famous-factor” that comes with being a foreigner (laowai 老外 in Chinese), anecdotes about (mis)understandings and prejudices, but also more serious questions about identity, self, and relationships between countries, cultures, and individuals. All in all very recognizable, entertaining, and thought-provoking stories. Check it out here: Americans in China | This American Life.
