Help us collect the books, movies, TV shows, and music that have influences how the world sees the United States. This material has never been compiled before. With the help of hundreds of contributors around the world (who will all be acknowledged here, unless you choose to remain anonymous—and that’s fine, too!), Berkshire will be able to offer students, journalists, and anyone interested in global culture and global understanding a fun and meaningful way to explore global perspectives on America. This is important information because from early in the 20th century, American music and movies began to take American popular culture around the globe. World War II was the next wave of global diffusion of American culture, from HErsey bars and nylons to Betty Grable. Economic influence brings cultural influence in its wake, and those on the receiving end have mixed feelings about it. The British complained that Americans were “overfed, oversexed, and over here.” People who have never seen a westerner know Michael Jackson and Britney Spears.
