We had pounding rain and wind and gloomy skies all day yesterday, but the sun shone for today’s drive to Colebrook, Connecticut. The whole local Berkshire team–not only those of us who work in Great Barrington but also Mary Bagg who lives in the Pioneer Valley–met to celebrate the arrival of the 6-volume Berkshire Encyclopedia of World History with William H. (Bill) McNeill. Bill had a fire and sherry ready for us, as well as one of his famous casseroles and a green salad that always includes a bit of feta cheese–a reminder of his early days in Greece. Here, at left, is Bill McNeill with Berkshire staff (from left to right: Amy Fredsall, Anna Myers, Rachel Christensen, Mary Bagg, and Bill Siever), each holding one of the six volumes. And in the second photograph you’ll see Bill and me posing happily (and proudly) with the entire set.
