Wen Jiabao in New York

I haven’t written up my notes on a memorable day, 23 September, when the UN began its new session in New York and I attended a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel for the premier of China, WEN Jiabao. I have been mentioning his name to everyone I run into in Great Barrington to see who recognizes it. No one, so far, except those in my office. He’s a Chinese leader who should be better known here, because he has done something unique, amongst Chinese leaders. He’s shown a little more feeling than is usual, especially in his actions after the earthquake in May, and the result has been positive, both in China and outside it. He is known as “Grandpa Wen,” for obvious reasons. Here’s an article from the New York Times about his page on Facebook, and also a link to Facebook, where you can read comments on his Wall (there are over 11,000 Wall Posts).
