Proud of the United States

White House protestor and dogThere are many countries where free speech is not a right – or at least not much of a reality. And the United States is certainly not perfect in this regard. But walking back to my hotel in Washington one morning last week, I relished the overt displays of protest against the current administration that are set up immediately opposite the White House. And not because I agree with the specific claims. That’s not the point. It’s wonderful to think that we still respect the right of individuals and groups to speak their mind, even when they dress up a photo of the president, George W. Bush, in an Arab headdress and long beard, and title it, “The Real Terrorist.”
