Of course it isn’t Easter Day here, but these flags flying over the market at Nu Ren Jie (Ladies Street) certainly have the right colors. I had a fascinating early meeting with a senior Chinese scholar, who had many observations that helped to put some current issues in perspective. The conversation actually disproved something I wrote yesterday, about the difficulty of having sufficiently complex discussions because of language barriers. But I’ll write about that tomorrow. It’s just too complex for me to go into after a whole afternoon and evening exploring the markets of Beijing with some new friends.
