A horrible idea

Dave Pollard mentioned, enthusiastically, something called NTag that would put contact information and those interest/responsibility checkboxes that one fills in when registering for conferences into one’s badge. The result would be, for me, that when I walked past someone else who was also interested in “virtual communities” or “social media” there would be some signal (lights blinking or a vibration–but surely vibration would be more appropriate to this bizarre relationship building) so we could make enthusiastic contact. I guess, from a quick look, that there are other products like this (one with the hideous name CharmBadge). How anyone could think this a good idea is beyond me!
