I’m at City Airport far out in the Docklands of East London, waiting for a plane to Frankfurt. I had a very expensive tour of the sights today, having been booked to fly into Heathrow and then out of City Airport. No connecting services at all, so it was train to Paddington then a long taxi ride. Fortunately, I had a talkative cab driver, and the most direct route (I know London well, or I might have doubted that it was direct) took us past Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, the Wheel, and the Tower of London. He told me that his son worked on the Wheel and telephoned from the scaffolding as he was driving down the Embankment one day because he could see the cab.
