David’s comment on last night’s technofest was, “What ever happened to the days when people were happy being alone with their thoughts?”

I’ve always felt like a jock wannabe, and now, as a technology publisher, I’m becoming a geek wannabe. It’s fun to experiment with new formats and means of communication (especially Skype: Internet talk is a wondrous new thing). After all, human history is all about world wide webs of communication, and today’s World Wide Web is only the latest of them.

But there are plenty of good reasons–environmental, social, and ethical–to be concerned about the relentless onslaught of new technology. Exploring different perspectives on technology will be the theme of the next issue of our magazine, the Berkshire Savant, and we’ll be asking for questions and contributions shortly. In the meantime, you can click here to download the summer global perspectives issue. A few print copies are still available, too.
